What you’ll discover here
In this exhibition you will hear songs that have had a more interesting life than most movies.
You will discover 25 banned songs from 25 different countries on the globe, and the stories behind them, some dramatic, others surprisingly funny. You will learn how a pirate radio operated from a ship, why cassettes were sold out of car trunks in the Bronx, and what a record cut onto an X-ray looks like.
You will explore the underground clubs that gave birth to entire music genres, small, hidden places where music didn’t need permission. You will see how graffiti, hip-hop and punk grew up together, as parallel forms of expression.
You will be able to play with instruments, pirate your own cassette or vinyl, create a digital graffiti, and discover which equipment makes your favourite music sound best.
And if you pay attention, you might leave with a new favourite song, one you would never have discovered if someone hadn’t tried to stop it.
